The car will drive us in the morning in direction of the Chataquila chapel (3.560m) from where we start our 7km hike to the rock paintings with views over the amazing Crater of Maragua and its colourful surroundings. After lunch we'll continue hiking, 9km mostly going down (YES!) through planting fields, typical houses... The car will pick us up from little community Chufle or Tumpeka and drive us back to Sucre. |
MIND YOU: This is high altitude trekking. You have to be reasonably fit and not too hung over.... The rock shelter of Incamachay and the cave of Pumamachay are decorated with paintings and some engravings. They are prehispanic (except for some recent graffiti...), but its exact age has not yet been established. They were probably made by the Sauces and Huruquilla cultures, between 2500 and 1500 years old. | |
