Right off Sucre's Central Plaza (Plaza 25 de Mayo) opposite the cathedral you'll find the Joy Ride Café. Ever since its opening on the 26th of July 2001, it's been a popular hangout for tourists, expats and locals alike.
Open from 7.30 am 'till late (from 9.00 am on the weekends) we serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Later at night the Joy Ride changes from being mostly a restaurant into a real European style bar (though the kitchen stays open until midnight) and on weekends it becomes a steaming dance café with a mix of tourists and locals dancing on the tables.
Looking for a place to chill out at night and have some 'caipirinhas' and a meal or spend your afternoon eating tapas and sipping your 'mojito cubano' in the sun? Come & hang out at our patio! With heating so also at nighttime it's hot!
In its short existence, the Joy Ride Café has built quite a name in Sucre and in the Bolivian travelers scene. Famous are the 'bitterballen', a very Dutch beersnack, and the 'Bossche Bol', a creamfilled chocolate bomb, also very Dutch indeed and absolutely unique in Bolivia!
The same goes for our selection of Belgian beers. You won't find them anywhere else in Bolivia.
If you're more of the mix drinks type of person, try one of these: our Brazilian 'Killer Caipirinha': a mix of lots of lime, lots of sugar, crushed ice and cachaça (Brazilian liquor produced from sugar cane), our 'Mojito Cubano': a mix of white rum, lime, sprite and hierba buena (good weed), a green herb you'll have to crush to add a minty taste to your drink, the more conservative 'Cuba Libre': brown rum with lime and coke or the typically Bolivian cocktail 'Chuflay': lime, sprite and singani. Lethal!
Like any good bar we do have our share of both spontaneous & planned parties! While in Sucre keep your eyes open for any Joy Ride posters announcing fiestas, live music, talent hunts etc. By the way, if you know how to play an instrument and/or you've got a good voice, don't be shy and ask one the Dutch guys if you can audition for a small concert!
Joy Ride goes cultural
